Virginia grew up in the interior village of Holikachuk, Alaska, which later became known as Grayling. She and her late husband Walter married in 1956. In 1969 Walter became a Christian through the ministry of InterAct (then Arctic Missions) missionary Kenny Hughes. Virginia had already been a Christian. They have spent about twenty-five years working in Anchorage with Native New Life Fellowship, and in 1991, Walter accompanied other InterAct men on a gospel trip to Yakutsk, Siberia. Their children are grown, and they have several grandchildren. Walter passed into the Lord’s presence in February 2000. Prior to his homegoing, The Maillelle’s continued to be very involved in Native New Life Fellowship in Anchorage and was responsible for organizing the Native Musicale and Leadership Conference during Fur Rendezvous week every February. Walter also ministered to other Native Alaskans via gospel teams to the villages.
